GTA 6 Skips PC at Launch — Ex-Rockstar Dev Explains Why

A former Rockstar producer says console-first design, not spite, is why GTA 6 won't hit PC on November 19 — but that's not the whole story.
GTA BOOM has relayed comments from John Ricchio, a former Rockstar producer who worked on GTA V, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne 3, offering a rare inside explanation for why GTA VI is skipping PC when it launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Speaking on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Ricchio said Rockstar deliberately builds for consoles first because every PS5 and Xbox Series unit shares identical hardware, letting developers optimize fully before scaling up to PC's far messier mix of components. He pointed to the original Red Dead Redemption, which reportedly had a playable PC build years before release that Rockstar never had the resources to finish alongside GTA Online and GTA VI.
GTA BOOM notes the explanation sits awkwardly next to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's claim that Rockstar has "unlimited" resources, and points to Rockstar's PlayStation marketing deal and GTA V's history of double-dip sales as a possible financial motive alongside the technical one.
Whatever the real mix of reasons, PC players have seen this pattern before with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption, so a launch-day port was never realistic — the only real question is how long the wait will be this time.
