GTA 6 Discs Caught Up in Sony Antitrust Fight in Mexico
Mexican lawmakers want regulators to probe Sony over ending PS discs, a move GTA BOOM says could reshape how GTA 6 buyers shop.
GTA BOOM reports that the push against Sony's move away from physical PlayStation discs has reached Mexico, where federal deputy Iraís Reyes and senator Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas of Movimiento Ciudadano filed a complaint with the country's antitrust commission. Their argument isn't that Sony must keep making discs, but that killing the only alternative sales channel hands Sony total control over pricing, distribution, and the store itself.
The filing cites unreliable internet access in parts of Mexico, past removals of purchased digital content from libraries, and the loss of retailer competition that currently drives down prices through promos and gift card deals. GTA BOOM notes Rockstar's code-in-a-box physical edition already hints at that all-digital future, where the PS Store price simply is the price.
As private citizens, Reyes and Colosio can't force action alone, and antitrust probes move slowly with no guaranteed outcome. Still, for anyone planning to buy GTA VI at a discount rather than full price, this fight over discs is worth watching closely.
